The
night before the day I left for school, Mum stuffed about five spiritual books
into my box, telling me to take turns reading them every morning and night.
“With time, the works of darkness will be totally undone, dear”, she said. My
confusion multiplies each time I hear words like this, because, for crying out
loud, why all these dramatic insinuations because of a few questions I needed
answers to?
Well, I
wish Mum knew her books were as good as abandoned; she would have kept them to
herself. Dad didn’t talk to me throughout that morning. We had a heated
argument because I said I was not following them to church for service.
I
couldn’t keep going to a place where I expect to enjoy light, only to leave
with more puzzles topped on the already complicated ones I am carrying. To me,
there was no point wasting my time. It feels like everything happened so fast.
Mum and Mason couldn’t believe I looked Dad in the eyes. It was the first, and
I’ll like to hope, the last time, that would happen.
“I work
my fingers to give you the best, oh, is it wrong that I gave you education? Are
you now so lettered that you will turn against the faith in which I have raised
you, Jayden”? “I’m sorry Dad, but I believe it is best I figure things out
myself for now” I replied. And that was the truth; I need to figure things out
myself because no one will help me too.
As my
family left for church without me that day, I felt sorry for making my Dad feel
the way he did. I just wish he knew how difficult these times and things are,
for me. But I’ll face it – he does not. Nobody does. Not my Mum, not the
church, and for my friends – they think I have backslidden too, and I have. As
a matter of fact, my Mum calls them, prays with them for me, and tells them to
keep an eye on me.
Mrs. Coker somehow probably fears the devil might act funny and make me disappear from the school, someday. Things that, rather than get me worried, now make me want to laugh.

Awwww

Hmmm,Hayden's plight is a real one.I don't have a solution to it but God does.
ReplyDeleteOne thing I know that raises such is when we pry too much in religion, reading so many unhealthy books that questions our faith.I have observed this is the root.
