Every time I recall Kelvin’s response to my questions in the Bible Study class, it always feels like a fuel to my budding uncertainties. I skipped the last Sunday service, partly because I wasn’t feeling well, mainly because I dreaded how people who were at the last Bible Study will see me because apparently, I asked questions that were “Anti-Christ”.
I feel
spiritually insufficient and, slowly, scientific journals are starting to take
the place of the Scriptures. My zest for reading has gone so terrific that I
spent five hours straight poring over theories, earlier today. Theories that
helped me see that there was no sense in the idea of the existentiality of any
god, that I am a product of evolution, and contrary to the religious idea of
life after death, I will simply cease to be when I die, and that’s it.
I
believe I need help. But who will help me in an environment where asking
questions like the ones in my mind means I am possessed, and the devil has
taken over me? I went home to spend the weekend, and considering the fact that
my biological parents equally happen to double as my spiritual parents, I
shared my worries with them.
I was
expecting an intensive counseling session, but my Dad instead declared a three
day fasting and prayer session, not only for me, but the entire family. “Why
drag me into this”? Mason grumbled and walked away.
Of
course, fasting has always been a thing in my family. It’s just that this time,
the reason for the fasting really saddened me. My parents too thought I was
possessed and they could just not wait to cast the devil who has built an
empire in my mind, out. In the words of my Dad, “It is spiritual warfare, the
boy needs deliverance, and we will deliver him”.
I
honestly wonder if fasting and deliverance are the ways Jesus posited for the
salvation of people. And this couldn’t be more heartbreaking, because these
were my parents, folks who have been preachers all my life. So when people come
to you with ideologies that differ from yours, deliverance from the power of
the devil is what you do?
Well, the deliverance has been done, and the devil is still where they said it is – my mind. Pathetic.

Very pathetic, they are being over religious

ReplyDeleteThis is enthralling and sad.
Now, This really got me hooked.
I really look forward to hearing from you, Jayden Coker.
Thank you for this, The Feranmi Oyedele.
Hmm....So touching
ReplyDeleteThis happens a lot
Well,Prayer is very important and it is also very important to minister the Word of God to that person and also encouraging them that even though they have left the place of communion and fellowship with God, God's arms is still wide open to accept them back and give them a new life in him.
Hmmmmm
ReplyDeleteWhile prayers are very much important, I'm certain the effects would have been multiplied if counseling were added to help Jayden's mind!
... When people come with ideologies... What will I do? 🤔 Hmm
Jayden's mind is where the battle is going on,although prayer is the most effective way to deal with it,I feel his parents should have encouraged him in love and not make him feel like he has denied the faith. They could have recommended spiritual books for me and just pray with him instantly to show their interest in what's bothering him
