Jayden’s Diary – Episode 3

Hi Diary,

Every time I recall Kelvin’s response to my questions in the Bible Study class, it always feels like a fuel to my budding uncertainties. I skipped the last Sunday service, partly because I wasn’t feeling well, mainly because I dreaded how people who were at the last Bible Study will see me because apparently, I asked questions that were “Anti-Christ”.

I feel spiritually insufficient and, slowly, scientific journals are starting to take the place of the Scriptures. My zest for reading has gone so terrific that I spent five hours straight poring over theories, earlier today. Theories that helped me see that there was no sense in the idea of the existentiality of any god, that I am a product of evolution, and contrary to the religious idea of life after death, I will simply cease to be when I die, and that’s it.

I believe I need help. But who will help me in an environment where asking questions like the ones in my mind means I am possessed, and the devil has taken over me? I went home to spend the weekend, and considering the fact that my biological parents equally happen to double as my spiritual parents, I shared my worries with them.

I was expecting an intensive counseling session, but my Dad instead declared a three day fasting and prayer session, not only for me, but the entire family. “Why drag me into this”? Mason grumbled and walked away.

Of course, fasting has always been a thing in my family. It’s just that this time, the reason for the fasting really saddened me. My parents too thought I was possessed and they could just not wait to cast the devil who has built an empire in my mind, out. In the words of my Dad, “It is spiritual warfare, the boy needs deliverance, and we will deliver him”.

I honestly wonder if fasting and deliverance are the ways Jesus posited for the salvation of people. And this couldn’t be more heartbreaking, because these were my parents, folks who have been preachers all my life. So when people come to you with ideologies that differ from yours, deliverance from the power of the devil is what you do?

Well, the deliverance has been done, and the devil is still where they said it is – my mind. Pathetic.

  3. Hmm....So touching
    This happens a lot
Well,Prayer is very important and it is also very important to minister the Word of God to that person and also encouraging them that even though they have left the place of communion and fellowship with God, God's arms is still wide open to accept them back and give them a new life in him.

  4. Hmmmmm
While prayers are very much important, I'm certain the effects would have been multiplied if counseling were added to help Jayden's mind!

... When people come with ideologies... What will I do? 🤔 Hmm

  5. Jayden's mind is where the battle is going on,although prayer is the most effective way to deal with it,I feel his parents should have encouraged him in love and not make him feel like he has denied the faith. They could have recommended spiritual books for me and just pray with him instantly to show their interest in what's bothering him

2021: Wins, Losses, Lessons, & People.

I think my initial struggle to put these thoughts into words, is the best note on which to begin this content. My mind housed the desire to write this review, at least, three weeks before I would later bring myself into the action. And for a consummate writer as I like to believe of myself, this was a particular subject of worry for me throughout the year.  I wrote, at least, three articles – a thousand words minimum – every week from January through August, all of them being paid gigs. It’s scary how money can be a crazy sponsor for motivation, because here’s the thing – the contents I wrote for money were not ones I had a thing for. They were mostly technical topics, which demanded tremendous amounts of diligence in the way of research. Besides two blogs of my own, I volunteer on two other blogs, where I write on topics and to the kind of audience that make my heart flutter.   I can recall more than two instances where I tried writing something on these topics...

Choices and Metamorphosis

What are choices? Choices are those decisive templates by which we live our lives. They are our daily premeditated actions, or decisive preferences. Of all the outfits packed in the diversity of your wardrobe, a black jean with a blue top was what you thought ideal to wear to a friend’s birthday party. That’s a choice. That’s your choice. You could have chosen another outfit, if you wanted to.  Choices play cardinal roles in the forms that our lives take, as humans. As a matter of fact, choices are the greatest weapons in our material arsenals. With your choices, you can make your life, and with your choices, you can break your life.  I was conversing with a mentor some two weeks ago, and he asked me why I had not yet implemented some of the goals I had for life. The question reflexively triggered my defenses. I gave him all the genuine reasons I thought I had in the world, and he told me something. “If you keep looking for excuses, you will always find them, and guess ...

4 Enriching Lessons From Gideon

Gideon is one of the many icons in the Bible, whose life, leadership, and walk with God provide a clear example of what God can achieve through a willing man. He served as Israel’s fifth major judge, and his destruction of baal, the pagan god, earned him the name Jerub-Baal, meaning the destroyer of Baal. Gideon embodied a rich history of faith that is as edifying today, as it was many thousand years ago. In this piece of content, I share 4 central lessons that can be gleaned from the life of Israel’s fifth judge. 4 Enriching Lessons from Gideon 1.       God Looks Beyond You When the angel of the Lord appeared to Gideon in verse 12 of Judges 6, he gave him a reference that exceeded the limits of his physical reality. He called Gideon a mighty man of valor. Another version refers to him as a mighty soldier. But, one would have asked how these labels of strength applied to a man who was clearly hiding in the bottom of a grane press ...
